Mather Anglican Church - in formation

Leadership: Will Weber - williamweber2013@u.northwestern.edu
Rev. Mike Niebauer, Rector mike@greenhousemovement.com
Canon William Beasley, Upper Midwest Regional Church Leader

The idea for Mather Anglican Church began when Jens suggested that Church of the Redeemer (at Northwestern) could partner with Will's InterVarsity small group to go caroling at Mather Pavilion. The event was very warmly received and the residents appreciated singing along to favorite Christmas hymns. Jens saw an opportunity to minister to Mather and challenged Will to use his position as student volunteer coordinator to start a service. Will initially resisted the idea of planting, but quickly realized that God could use him at Mather beyond his normal cooking class and current events discussion. Other student volunteers joined the pair and the service became a reality! To God be the glory.

  • Lyn: Rey De Paz is a loving family that came into my life at just the right time. I was looking for a smaller community where people can get to know each other. We all speak the same language of God's faithful love and grace. I am grateful to God for this loving community.

What brought me to this church was my faith in God, my love for God, a desire to have good health and keep moving forward in life with my children. Rey de Paz has given me that and more. I feel like a queen here. I thank God so much for Rey de Paz.

Testimonials

  • I convinced my 80 year old mother to join my family on Christmas Eve and attend a church service in our good friends' barn. Their son, Jens, was officiating the service. She was hesitant at first for fear of freezing, but decided to try this new experience! When we stood to share peace she hugged me and said how glad she was that she had come because it was the first time she felt as if she was experiencing what the Holy Family experienced! Feeling blessed, even though we were in a barn, it was cold, and quiet and yet we felt such peace.
    - Jody Smithback

I love going to services in the barn, it's the most amazing thing to worship/pray/sing in a beautiful historic barn with so much history. Rain, shine, or bitter cold the barn takes you back to a time long ago when pews were straw bales and neighbors near and far gathered to worship. Everyone should experience a service in the barn!  - Erin Littleton

Missio Dei Anglican - In Formation

Leadership: Mark Ball, Catechist - mark@missiodeihouston.org,
713-962-2965
Rev. Clark Lowenfield, Rector
Canon William Beasley, National Church Leader

Missio Dei means the Mission of God. It is not our mission that we ask Him to help with, but His mission that we are compelled by love to join. The Missio Dei is this: God is restoring the world to Himself through His son Jesus.

Missio Dei Anglican is now meeting as a church planting team. Our first church plant in Pasadena is underway and we hope to plant a second church near the University of Houston by the end of the year. Missio Dei means the Mission of God. It is not our mission that we ask Him to help with, but His mission that we are compelled by love to join. The Missio Dei is this: God is restoring the world to Himself through His son Jesus.

We believe that the Gospel of Jesus has the power restore the heart of any human to their Father, Creator, and King. We believe that the Church is the family of all those who have come to believe this Gospel, and by faith live under the rule of His invisible Kingdom. We believe that the only valid response to what God has done in Christ is to forsake the building of our own kingdoms, and to pursue the purpose of God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.

Heritage Anglican

Leadership: Ben Williams - benjaminwilliams2014@u.northwestern.edu
Rev. Mike Niebauer, Rector mike@greenhousemovement.com
Canon William Beasley, Upper Midwest Regional Church Leader

God loves all people, and wants to reach them with the transforming love of His Son, Jesus Christ. Despite God’s relentless love, many wonderful people are forgotten and marginalized by society. Among them are the weak and infirm, the mentally disabled, recovering drug addicts, and the elderly. These people, many of them near death, badly need to know God’s love that He gives through His Church. Nursing home residents don’t need their own special “ministry”- they need the Body of Christ!

It is to meet this need that Heritage Anglican Church was begun. We are a congregation of Redeemer Anglican Church that meets at Heritage Nursing Home in the Edgewater neighborhood of Chicago. Volunteers from our Albany Park congregation go to the home to show the residents God’s love by forming them into a community of Christians. Every Saturday morning we lead them in a service of praise, preaching, and prayer, encouraging them to take part by reading Scripture passages and lifting up prayer requests. We also meet with them individually after service and during the week, praying with, counseling, and simply being friends to whomever needs it. Typically, we learn more from them than they do from us! We also transport residents to our Albany Park service if they so desire.

God’s work at Heritage is being done by an amazing group of friends and co-ministers from the Albany Park congregation, led by Jacob Andrews. Lay catechist Mike Niebauer, who pastors Redeemer in Albany Park, supervises the work. Our rector, overseeing priest, and source of unending encouragement is Canon William Beasley.

  • Story- Nursing Home Adventures: "I'm Jehovah God!"

Emily: The beginning of this year's Lenten season will mark one year since I expressed my interest in helping Jacob with the new church plant at Heritage Nursing home. I treasure Saturday mornings as I mingle with the "usuals" and greet the new attendees and residents. The liturgy and eucharist take on an entirely different feel as both are celebrated in an environment so different than the "standard church" with the "standard people." The residents at Heritage are so genuine--Heritage Anglican truly is a family. For some it's the only family they have, but what a wonderful family to be a part of. I'm so fortunate to be a part of it all.

David: Of all the churches I've been to in my years this is the only one that accepts me and I love it. I'm more happier here than I've ever been in church--I'm making friends too-I love life!

Vicky: This church has changed my life and has saved me. Jacob, Kate, Emily and the congregation have been instrumental in my healing and connecting me back to my faith.

Testimonials

  • Anne: Before I moved to Chicago, I was worried that I would have trouble finding a church steeped in both liturgy and prayer, supported by the treasures of the Church's past and led forward by the strong power of the Holy Spirit. I should have remembered that our God is one who does "infinitely more than all we ask or imagine." At Redeemer Anglican I found a church home that has blessed me in more ways than I can express. The rhythm of the liturgy is sustaining, and the sermons consistently challenge me to think deeply about how to grow as a Christian; most important, however, has been the true community I've found. Christian community at Redeemer doesn't just mean friendship, although it certainly includes that. It means interceding and giving thanks on each other's behalf, welcoming newcomers into our relationships, going out together to love and serve the world in our many different ways. It means learning together how to be the body of Christ.

Taylor: Being a part of Redeemer Anglican church has been a great joy for my husband and I. We so appreciate participating in a world-wide church, praying regularly for others, and joining in communal worship. The liturgy is just that; highly communal. And we love it!

Nick & Lydia: We are all brothers and sisters at Redeemer. It's great to be in a congregation who take the call to love and serve seriously and intentionally. The liturgy and Eucharist allow us to worship together in unity, not only locally, but all over the world. Our family appreciates the liturgy because we use it as a structure for our scripture reading and prayer throughout the week, keeping us connected to the broader church family.

Testimonials

  • Bob: I have been seeking a church that places emphasis on the Bible as well as the prayer book. Hope Anglican is strong in that way. We have a lay preacher about half the Sundays and he truly brings the continuity of Scripture to our understanding. I’ve never been a part of a church plant before. It is fulfilling in a way that is different from anything available in other churches I’ve attended.

Laurie: I am relatively new to the Anglican church. Most of my background has been with the Baptist and Covenant traditions. However, I have come to love the Anglican worship.

There is more Scripture reading from both the Old and New Testaments. There is communion every Sunday. These pieces of worship have become very meaningful and important to me. I also love the people at Hope Anglican. They are very dear friends and they are my family in Christ. Whenever I attend another church, I always miss Hope. Even though we’re small, the Holy Spirit is abounding in our church!

Kim: What is Hope Anglican Fellowship to me? Simple: it is Hope, in action, in a community of believers. Our Hope is in the Lord, and raising this fellowship is a direct result of that. Raising a church has turned out to be NOT the entrepreneurial sort of challenge I expected. The work of planting a church: thinking through its foundations and telling people about that and learning to connect our liturgy and our music and our prayer to the reason for worship—these are works that transform. I am not the same person of faith that I was before this. I encountered my God in a new and astonishing way as He has called us to raise up this church. Small faith has been rewarded with amazing care and love. I can’t wait to see what He has for us next!

  • Jan: I started Light of Christ as a catechist (lay pastor) with my wife and family in our living room to reach our community.

Daniel: My son has autism, and at LoC, he is not just tolerated, he is welcomed, and encouraged to serve. This spirit of mutual service takes many forms. He takes his turn as an acolyte, and he has buddies who take turns sitting with him so my wife and I have an opportunity to focus on worship. Deacon Jan said it so well: "We're all in this together. We need him as much as he needs us."

Dan: The path God set me on, when I gave myself to Him, brought me right in the front doors of Light of Christ. There I find the light of Christ shining in the faces of everyone I meet inside those walls.  He is present in our service and in our lives. He walks with us daily and keeps us in His grace. I thank Him for Light of Christ as one of my blessings.

  • Lori: When I first came to Bread of Life, I was looking for a community of faith to participate in, and I kept coming back because the services are refreshing and the worship is beautiful and centering. The liturgy is prayerful and encouraging.

At Bread of Life, I’ve enjoyed the monthly potlucks and the growing relationships in our small group, where we have lots of laughs and time to talk and share on a deeper level.

Wayne: I’ve been coming to Bread of Life a little over a year. When I first came, I was looking for a break from the “rat race” of our old church. I was looking for a place where I might be able to find that elusive “peace of God that passes all understanding.” I kept coming back because we loved the simple but powerful worship service: The sense of the Holy Spirit’s presence was palpable.

The community is small but growing and includes some of the most spiritually mature people I have ever met.

I’ve found the worship to be refreshing. Truly refreshing in a spiritual sense. After worship at BoL, I feel truly forgiven.

At this church, I’ve enjoyed and grown through the prayer team, small group, music, and the sermons that always seem to be just what I need to hear.

If anyone came to VISIT our church, I would want them to meet the pastor, experience our worship service, and take advantage of the opportunity to be prayed for, one-on-one, during the service.

BoL is like an oasis – a refreshing drink of cool water after a day’s hard work. We are passionate believers yet refreshingly free of dogmatism and moralism.

Testimonials

  • Lauren: Through Church of the Redeemer at Northwestern I've come to understand what it really means to live in Christian community. I have especially appreciated how our church's small groups, retreats, and ministry opportunities have helped me grow in my faith during my formative college years.

Justin: I first started going to Redeemer in January of my Sophomore year. I had been searching for a solid church community that saw each other more than just once a week. I found it! Since then I have been blessed to see how God is transforming people's lives in such unexpected ways. Redeemer's community has been supportive, encouraging, and consistent as I've journeyed into walking and deepening my relationship with God.

Anika: Church of the Redeemer at Northwestern has become such an important part of my campus life because of the strong, sacrificial Christian community it fosters. This community is made up of students from all different backgrounds and fields of study, and its central location on campus makes it accessible and encourages outreach.

Redeemer also extends beyond the scope of Northwestern, continually reminding me of the extensiveness of Christ's church. The vast network of the Greenhouse Movement and the greater Anglican Church encourage both church growth and personal growth.

Ewain: Church of the Redeemer is a great, close knit community. It has been a major source of friendship and spiritual support for me during my time at NU. Church meets right on campus, so I don't need to travel, which is very convenient.

Daniel: I've really enjoyed being a part of the Church of the Redeemer at Northwestern. Not only is it an amazing, dynamic and diverse community, but I've been encouraged to discover and share my spiritual gifts, and my faith has been challenged in so many ways. My greatest joy has been getting to lead prayer meetings at my place on Wednesday nights. I'm really grateful to have found this group!

Joyce: I am so thankful to be part of the Church of the Redeemer community. It has really given me a richer and more accurate understanding of what it means to “be the Church.” I no longer view church as a building that I would go into for an hour a week, but now I view church as God created it to be—this community of believers, this body of Christ, all committed to the work of His Kingdom. I just get so excited about our presence as the Church right here on campus because I truly believe it is powerful, and I look forward and hope expectantly for God to work through us to reach out, bring more people into our community, and really transform Northwestern. Something else I love about Church of the Redeemer is that I am encouraged to serve, not just be served, and to discover my gifts and really be an active member. I have been especially blessed by the congregations that we help lead at nursing homes in the area. I have learned so much through this ministry about who Christ is and how much joy and fulfillment I get from losing myself in loving and serving those around me. It has also been incredible to see God moving in those places and among the people there. I am always blown away and reminded of his transformative power and faithfulness.
